Redfish are the headline in Rockport this week, and Thursday, October 15 is the day to be on the water. Recent charter reports show reds stacking up on the flats, and light southeast winds around 10 knots with sunny skies make Thursday the cleanest day of the window.
A cold front changes the story fast. North winds build Friday to 15–25 knots with gusts possibly higher, staying choppy to rough into Saturday morning before easing to 10–15 knots by Saturday afternoon. No marine advisories are in effect for the bays as of Wednesday’s forecast, but watch for Small Craft Advisories Friday. Tides are gentle, with predicted highs near 0.8 ft and lows near 0.4 ft.
Best windows: Thursday 4:17–6:17 PM, when the moon is overhead under a waxing crescent, and Saturday 1:07–2:37 PM, as moonrise lines up with easing wind.
Redfish: work the shallow flats and grass edges around Redfish Bay and Copano Bay with cut mullet or live shrimp. Speckled trout: target grass flats in Aransas Bay and Copano Bay with soft plastics or a popping cork. Flounder: fall migration is building, so try channel edges near Rockport Harbor and Aransas Pass with finger mullet.
Also active: black drum and sheepshead around reefs, docks and jetties on dead shrimp.
