Redfish are stealing the show in Rockport this week, with the Coastal Bend fall run picking up steam and reds pushing hard into the passes — Rockport is hot heading into October.
Water temperature is holding at 86.7°F at the Rockport station. Winds run southeast 8-14 mph Tuesday, building to south-southeast 14-17 mph with gusts to 25 mph Wednesday as the bay turns choppy, then easing to southeast near 14 mph Thursday with waters slightly to occasionally choppy again. No Small Craft Advisory is posted for Copano, Aransas, or Redfish Bays, though conditions may near advisory levels midweek.
The best windows are Tuesday 2:46-4:46 PM, riding the lunar underfoot transit under the calmest bay conditions of the stretch, and Thursday 4:43-6:43 PM, catching the same underfoot pattern as winds ease back down.
Redfish are working the Aransas Pass channel, Redfish Bay flats, and the Mangroves on live shrimp and cut mullet as the fall run builds. Speckled trout are a first-light bite over the Aransas Bay grass flats, Copano Bay shorelines, and Lydia Ann Channel. Flounder are staging on the Lydia Ann Channel drop-offs, Copano Bay marsh drains, and Redfish Bay sand-mud edges ahead of the fall migration.
Also active: black drum are holding steady around structure and channel edges, and sheepshead are beginning their move to jetty rock as water starts to cool.
