Redfish are the story in Rockport right now — thin-water pods are mowing down shrimp hatches, with guides finding both scattered singles and thick schools. Bay conditions are about as good as August gets.

Winds run east-southeast at 5 to 10 mph Saturday and Sunday with the bay reported smooth, turning slightly choppy Monday afternoon as southeast wind builds to 10 to 15 knots. No advisories are in effect, though scattered afternoon storms are possible both weekend days.

The best window of the period is Saturday, 8:32–10:32 AM, when the moon rides overhead over a smooth bay and ahead of the midday storm risk. The second window is Sunday evening, 5:10–6:40 PM, timed to moonset as rain risk fades and reds push back into skinny water.

Redfish are Very Good — working Estes Flats, the ICWW edge flats between Rockport and Port Aransas, and the back lakes behind San Jose Island, eating live shrimp and early topwaters. Speckled Trout are Good — holding ICWW edges, Estes Flats grass and deeper Copano Bay shell, with the best fish coming late in the day. Flounder are Fair — staging around Aransas Channel and Copano Bay drains on soft plastics.

Also active: Good Black Drum on Copano Bay shell and deeper mud edges taking dead shrimp, and Fair Sheephead around the Copano Bay causeway pilings on cut crab.
